Dhow Cruise in Fjords
Cruise Musandam’s longest fjord
Musandam’s mountainous backdrop and craggy, fjord-like inlets inspired its reputation as the Norway of Arabia. On this spectacular half-day excursion, you’ll cruise along Khawr Shamm, the region’s longest fjord, in a traditional Arabian dhow. Sit back and be awed by the majestic white limestone cliffs soaring out of calm turquoise waters to heights of up to 1,000 metres. Then soak up the atmosphere as you make your way past small islands, peninsulas, coral reefs and fishing villages. You may even spot some dolphins swimming alongside the boat.
Towards the centre of Khawr Shamm you’ll see a small, flat island rising out of the water. This is Telegraph Island, home in 1864 to a British telegraph station which
oversaw the telegraph cable running between India and Iraq. It was abandoned five years later as the Europeans manning the station struggled to cope with the
overpowering heat and humidity. There’ll be no such hardships for you as you enjoy this breathtaking landscape from the cool of the water.
